Telegram voice messages too long? 5 ways to deal with them

In short: play them faster, let them run while you do something else, read them with Telegram's transcription or get the gist from TLDL. And if you are the one sending long voice messages, three rules make them much easier to listen to.

Telegram voice messages have no practical length limit, and it shows: some people tell their whole day in ten minutes, others send five voice messages in a row. Here is what you can do, from the simplest to the most effective.

1. Play them faster

When a voice message starts, a player with a speed button appears at the top of the chat. Tap it to switch to 1.5x or 2x: at 2x a six-minute voice message takes three minutes, and you get used to it quickly.

2. Listen while doing something else

You do not have to stay in the chat: if you leave, the voice message keeps playing and the player stays at the top so you can pause it. Telegram also plays the next voice messages one after another, so a burst of them plays straight through.

3. Read them instead of listening

The button with an arrow and an A next to a voice message turns it into text. With Telegram Premium it is unlimited; without Premium it only works for a few voice messages a week. Our guide on how to transcribe Telegram voice messages has the details.

4. Get the gist

Forward the voice message to @tldlchannelbot: within seconds you get the key points and the to-dos, even for voice messages up to 30 minutes. The first 10 summaries are free.

5. Kindly ask for shorter ones

Sometimes saying it is enough. A message like "If it's quick, just text me, I only listen to long voice messages in the evening" works better than a hurt silence. And if you send them, three rules help whoever listens:
